There’s something to be said about a great getaway, isn’t there?! Not the kind of ‘getaway’ that Ronald Biggs had to do with the Great Train Robbery of 1963 or the ‘getaway’ the crew of retired elderly crooks of The Hatton Garden Diamond Heist did, but rather the kind of getaway that lets you unwind, relax, take a breather and rediscover the tantalizing tastes of a Strawberry Daquiri or a glass of Champagne by the pool while reading a good novel and soaking up the sun. And what makes it even better is being able to take your beloved fur baby with you too!

I know when we traveled, we absolutely loved having Maya and Blaze with us. They made our getaway so much more enjoyable, relaxing and exciting. No two days were ever the same and they had lots of fun and enjoyment on their puppy dog adventures with us too.
And whilst travel may seem a thing of the past since COVID-19, social distancing and travel restrictions, the thing to remember is, this too shall pass. There’s nothing stopping us from planning ahead within Australia or within our state (where permitted). Many places don’t require full payment and have no or very little cancellation fees when booking in advance.

We thought we’d look at some of our favourites and some of the top ‘Pooch inclusive,’ getaway stays around Australia, starting with Melbourne….

Whilst Metropolitan Melbourne and Mitchell Shire is currently in lockdown, there are still those places to keep in mind for when we are back open and able to travel around Victoria. When it is safe for us to be traveling in and around Victoria again, it’s good to remember that a lot of these stunning country areas have also been hit hard and directly affected by COVID-19 because tourists, and city-folk wanting to getaway, have not been able to do so. It’s a great way of giving back to them too, once we’re safely able to.

VICTORIA

LEDDICOTT COTTAGE – DANDENONG RANGES
The Dandenong Ranges is one of my personal favourite areas in Victoria. I grew up travelling to this gorgeous part of Victoria and can remember spending lots of time with Mum and Dad and our two German Shepherds, Kaiser and Heidi, at a number of stunning log cabins in and around the Dandenong Ranges. It’s also home to the famous Puffing Billy Railway. The Puffing Billy Railway is a 2ft 6in narrow gauge heritage railway in the Dandenong Ranges and is pretty much an icon in Victoria.

Leddicott Cottage is nestled on one and a half acres of private gardens and woodlands. Leddicott Cottage is a luxury holiday retreat with one generous bedroom in the charming village of Olinda in the Dandenong Ranges. Leddicott Cottage is conveniently situated within walking distance of great restaurants and unique boutique stores. This self-contained and dog-friendly hideaway is prefect for those who are looking to relax and renew.
One of the best things I love about Leddicott Cottage is that not only can you take a bushwalking trail, stroll through scenic gardens or take your dog and visit some of the gorgeous quirky pet cafes. But if you feel like staying in, you can spend the time enjoying the woodland gardens or have a soothing soak in the tub whilst enjoying a glass of your favourite cool-climate wine. And, Leddicott is one of the few that also features a large secure grassed enclosure with under covered area where you can confidently leave your fur baby without a concern.

QUEENSLAND

SPICERS TAMARIND RETREAT – MALENY, SUNSHINE COAST
One of my ultimate favourite areas of Queensland is the Sunshine Coast Hinterlands. A stunning natural backdrop of greenery, mountains and stunning sunsets in the evenings.
