Why do you use a studio environment for photographing my pets?
There are many advantages to photographing in a studio environment.
- Your pet is 100% secure in our photography studio.
- There are no other strange animals or people about to distract your pet during the session.
- The ‘weather’ in the studio is perfect all year round, providing flexible times and dates that suit your needs.
- We have 100% control over the light. Photography is ALL about light — the word literally means “painting with light” — and studio lighting gives us full creative control for our unique animal art photography style.
- Your pet’s personality and character can really shine through. In the studio he/she can be fully relaxed, like they are at home.
How long does the photography session last and what happens during the session?
The photography session lasts between one and two hours. We allocate plenty of time, to allow us to get to know your pet and to ensure your pet has the chance to settle into the studio. For the first 10–15 minutes we let them explore the studio, sniff around, and get used to the lighting and camera. It can be an exciting place!
We also like to get you, their ‘Mum’ or ‘Dad’, involved with assisting in the photography session. We like you to help us attract their attention for the camera and lighting. It’s loads of fun and we always get some fantastic photos. After all, we do specialise in this field of photography, and we have quite a few tricks up our sleeves to capture the perfect shot!
When and where do your photography sessions take place?
In Melbourne, our studio photography sessions take place in our purpose-built studio located in Port Melbourne, Melbourne. In Brisbane, we use a studio located in Balimba, Brisbane. For Melbourne, appointments are available from Tuesday to Sunday, starting from 9:30am. In Brisbane, we are usually in Brisbane for two weeks at dedicated times three to four times through the year. You can request our Brisbane dates directly with us.
Can I be in the photo too?
Absolutely! We frequently photograph people with their pets, and love to capture your unique and special bond. It’s such a special time to experience with your pets. We don’t want you to miss out on celebrating your precious bond together. Please let us know if you wish to be in the photos when booking in your session as this is important information for our preparation.
How many animals can I bring along to my photography shoot?
We generally work with up to two dogs OR two cats in each studio session. No extra fees apply, as long as these pets are from the same ‘family’. Otherwise, we would recommend two separate sessions to ensure that we get the very best from your pets and maximise their photo opportunities.
My dog is not the most obedient. She’s too energetic and unruly and doesn’t know sit-stay … OR … My dog is shy … OR … My dog does not like other people … will you capture good photos?
Absolutely. We don’t just photograph dogs: we know dogs, have owned dogs all our lives and have worked with many different personalities (and the same goes for cats!).
Sometimes it takes a bit more patience and perseverance but we always get there in the end. We know you will be surprised and delighted with the results. And don’t forget this is all about capturing their personalities!
My dog/cat is ill and has little time left. Can you fit him/her into your shooting schedule quickly?
Absolutely! Older cats and dogs or pets with failing-health take priority. Your memories of your dog or cat are our priority.
Do you only photograph dogs and cats, or do you photograph other animals as well? Do you take photographs of animals that can be used commercial for my website or business?
We specialise specifically in private-use, residential studio sessions only and during these sessions we are able to photograph all animals that will fit in our studio. Dogs and cats are our specialities, but we also photograph ferrets, birds, rats, guinea pigs, lizards, snakes, goats. Please contact us to discuss your pet family requirements! We do not specialise in commercial studio photography and Zoo Studio do not provide commercial photography services for businesses or people interested in purchasing photographs for business purposes..
